Joomla is an effective content management system. What is a content management system? Also called a CMS, it is software that, once installed, helps you build and manage your website with ease. Joomla is open source and free.
The easiest way to install Joomla is with your web host’s one-click installer. Most hosts include one, such as Softaculous, in their control panel. Just choose Joomla, enter your site name and admin details, and the installer does the rest.
To install Joomla manually, download it from joomla.org. It comes as a compressed file. Upload it to a folder on your web server and unzip it there. Then create a database and a database user with a password. You can do this in your hosting control panel, which usually includes a MySQL databases tool and phpMyAdmin.
Next, open your website in your browser to start the Joomla installer. First select the language for your site. Then enter your site’s name, and create your administrator account with a username, email address and strong password.
Finally, enter your database details: the database type, host name, username, password and database name. The installer checks that your server meets Joomla’s requirements, then sets up your site and removes the installation folder. You can now log in to the administrator area and start building your website with Joomla.
