How to Choose the Right Web Hosting – Part 2

Read the fine print on “unlimited” plans

Many web hosting providers offer unlimited disk space and bandwidth. There’s nothing wrong with that, but no server has unlimited resources, so these plans always come with fair-use limits in the terms of service. Check what those limits are, especially for processing power and the number of files you can store. Remember, too, that web hosting is not only about disk space and bandwidth, but also about the quality of the service you get and how promptly your needs are taken care of.

Make sure your web host provides a feature-rich service

Some web hosting providers offer fewer features for higher prices, while others offer more features for less. Today most web hosting companies include everything you need to run a modern website, even on their budget plans: a free SSL certificate, one-click WordPress installs, email accounts, automatic backups and a website builder. So my advice is to always compare the features of the hosts you’re interested in, and choose the one that gives you the most of what you need for your money.

Check the renewal price, not just the introductory price

This is very important. Most web hosts offer a low introductory price for your first term, and then charge a higher price when your plan renews. That doesn’t make the deal bad, but you should know what you’ll pay later before you sign up. Otherwise you may be frustrated by the higher bill and want to change hosts, which means going through the work of moving your website. Choosing a longer first term can lock in the low price for longer, so always check the renewal price and the length of the deal.
